Sateen Sheets in Egyptian Cotton

The term Sateen sheets can be misleading, as it can be mistaken for Satin. Sateen is a weaving process that produces a satiny type weave and is usually woven in an all over or a striped effect. These are very smooth and satiny but will not last as long as your regular weave sheets. Do Not be misled by the term Sateen or Satin as both are weaves in fabrics, and can be cotton, silk, or a synthetic fiber. Sheets are usually made from mercerized cotton which has been treated with sodium to make them shiny.
You will find Sateen in Egyptian cotton sheet sets and bed in a bag sets or duvet cover sets. Any bedding that you choose in Sateen you will just love, try them and see for yourself.

3 Super Hints to keep the Washing Machine clean.

These handy tips came from the dryer repair guy. Who would have thought he would have such good hints for laundry and washing machine.
Cleaning the Washing Machine:
* 2 teaspoons Lavender in warm wash cycle. This deals with residue that builds up in the machine.
* Then follow up with a gallon of white vinegar in a warm wash cycle, do this every 3 to 4 years.
* Natural detergents act like fertilizer so you will need to do this cleaning more often.

Amount of Soap:
* Correct amount of laundry solution to use depends on our location, if soft water in costal areas use only 1/4 of the recommended amount. Harder water areas use double the soft water area. I find the box says way more than you need to use.

Laundry Loads:
* Sort by fabric weight rather than colors, this gives a better cleaning. Laundry soap companies want you to sort by color and laundry machine companies want you to sort by weight. The best washes are sorted by fabric weight as you get a better spin with the machine and thus a better wash.

The clothes Dryer has a History.

When you are drying your clothes in your beautiful clothes dryer, do you ever wonder how this wonderful invention ever came about. Maybe it was out of necessity, maybe people got sick of draping their laundry on rocks, hung on tree branches and finally strung out on a line to try and dry the clothes or sheets and pillowcases without having them fly in the dirt before they were ever dry.

It seems that a French man named Ponchon developed the first dryer in 1799. It tumbled clothes etc. as it turned over a fire, with a crank handle. I wonder how many clothes and pillowcases or sheets just burnt up in the process. You sure wouldn't want to put your pants on right out of the dryer!!!
Several other tumble dryers were developed before the 1950 clothes dryer emerged that actually looked like our modern day dryer.
In the 1890's an elaborate rack dryer was developed that sat on top of the wood stove. It wasn't until later around 1915 that the first electric dryer came into use.

Clothes drying technology has grown in leaps and bounds since then to the beautiful ultra modern machines we have today. But no matter what dryer we come up with, there will never be a duplication of the wonderful smell of clothes and sheets and pillowcases that are dried in the sun and the wind.
Here is my challenge for today: Go to www.sheerheavenluxurybedding.com and buy a nice sheet set in Organic or pure 100% Egyptian cotton wash it and hang outside on a line so the wind can blow it dry and put it on the bed and enjoy the wonderful eco friendly feeling and smell. You won't easily forget this experience.

Washing Instructions for Egyptian Cotton Bedding

Since my last blog on bedding for the Dorm, I felt it was only fitting to make up a washing instruction sheet for the care of your Egyptian cotton sheets and duvet covers etc.
1. Wash Your Egyptian cotton sheets and pillowcases once a week.
2. Use an Eco friendly detergent, most stores carry a line of nice Green Products.
3. Wash the sheets and pillowcases in one load, you can add the duvet cover and pillow shams also.
4. Use Warm water for the first 2 or 3 washings to insure they don't shrink too much. But after that I would use hot water to kill any dust mites or bugs that may get in your bed.
5. Rinse with cold water.
6. Give the sheets and pillowcases a good shake when you remove them from the washer and put into the dryer, dry on the gentle cycle and fold as soon as they are removed from the dryer. It keeps them smooth.

Your sheets will stay beautiful for years.

Some Eco Facts on Bamboo Sheets !

Why Bamboo? Bamboo is a perfectly natural organic product and does not need any pesticides or other chemicals. It is naturally antibacterial and allergen free. Did you know that Bamboo stays cool in summer and warm in winter so is Heavenly to sleep on?
Don't worry bamboo shoots won't grow up through your body while you sleep! That only happens in King Kong Movies.......
As for the Environmentally conscious person you will be pleased to know that Bamboo is one of the world's fastest growing, greenest, and most renewable resources. Bamboo plants can grow up to a foot a day and because they grow so densely, a forest of Bamboo has about 40% more biomass than a Hardwood Forest, so can reduce about 40% more carbon than a Hardwood Forest.

Some Bamboo products have Egyptian Cotton mixed in to make it softer, stronger and more absorbent. Some cottons grown in North America are processed using pounds of chemicals, per pound of cotton, more than any other crop uses. Some of this ends up in our clothing and bedding etc. but most of it ends up the the Rivers and flows into the Gulf of Mexico's Dead Zone.
Eating Organically is great for the environment but our clothing, towels, sheets, and other textile processes probably have a harsher impact on our world.
Sleep peacefully on vegan/animal friendly Bamboo sheets from Sheer Heaven Luxury Bedding. Buy Now! before it's too late.
